[ jinx nips at her bottom lip to prevent herself from answering that money prize question. because beyond her father, her rough first love experience, and her fear of abandonment, there is one other key element to why she believes they can't be any more than what they already are. and that crucial thing is shimmer.
it's not too uncommon of its existence, otherwise, how else is she able to function for this long? but how much of the serum is being hidden away in aldrip is something no one is aware of besides her and silco. and with santa the council bringing in the supplies to them at random, will it be a matter of time until the others to discover it? she knows of their hatred of shimmer, ekko more so than anyone.
and jinx has no doubt in her mind that he will try to dispose of it if shimmer ever saw the light of day. the talk of starting over sounds gorgeous, and she would give just about anything to redo everything — even some aspects of her life here in aldrip. but she's smart enough to know that as long as shimmer existed in this world, there will always be that conflict between them, the thing that will keep them from being united. so the teenager refrains and continues to keep a tight lip about it, but her heart instantly jolts in dread when ekko gathers to his feet.
is he going to leave her now? is this the moment where he gives up, and they part ways? it's for the best, but it rattles her heart, and her gaze pounces upward to the boy with slight worry. but it all diminishes when he continues to speak, his sentences going against her wild assumptions, and it hits her then that... the thought of ekko leaving right now in general is upsetting. he obviously can't stay in the treehouse with her forever, but... she doesn't want him to leave right this second either. ]
[ his counterpart watches him closely, listening carefully too, as he extends out his hand to her. she is reluctant to take it, but it's the three words that he says next that swells her heart so tremendously that tears almost leak at the corner of her eyelids.
'i want you.'
her breath catches as her lips quiver, her pinks dart between his hand and his face. jinx ducks her head down in an attempt to shield her expression, but it's easy to spot what emotion is overtaking her by the shake of her shoulders, and the pink droplet of tears landing on the floorboards. someone wants her, wants her, despite how different she is, regardless of how uncivil people say she is, although they've voiced how much of a problem she is, or how she will be silco's downfall (which happened). regardless of all of this, there is still someone who sees her and longs for her.
choking on a sob, jinx doesn't take his hand, but pushes herself off the floor, then launches herself into his chest. with her eyes shut so tight, jinx clings to him in desperation and fear that if she were to let go of him now, he'll vanish into thin air and through her fingers. ]
D-Dont... [ she starts, hiccuping through her words. ] Don't throw me away...please.
[Sure they had their differences in many aspects and they wouldn't always agree on things but that didn't mean Ekko would give up on her. Even when it came to shimmer, although he despised what the drug had done to the masses of Zuan, culling them under its effects as Silco used it both to subjugate and empower the people depending on the person he knew Jinx now relied on it for survival. She probably wouldn't have been here today if it hadn't been for Singed using its potent abilities to save the girl from the brink of death and was thankful for that much even if he wished there could have been another way. Eventually there would come a time when they talked about how she was able to sustain herself here in Aldrip but that would be a long time coming.
When she looks upwards to the hand offered then back to his face without accepting it a grimace look falls over his lips though was swiftly met by an unexpected turn of events. Tears begin to pour from Jinx’s eyes causing him to gasp audibly and before he can even react she leaps from her perch to embrace him in a tight hold. The sobbed words that usher forth cause his jaw to go slack in awe, caught off guard until finally wrapping his arms about her in turn. Tucking his cheek against the top of her head the boy shakes his own silently until he whispers out softly in a reassuring manner.]

[They could stay like this as long as she pleased, Ekko in no rush to leave her especially in such a vulnerable state of mind. He knew she was conflicted and something was clearly stopping her from giving into her true desire but wouldn't continue to press the issue.]
[ how embarrassing this is, to have a raven squawking and wailing in distress at a prey she is meant to eat or demolish. if anyone else saw her now (especially from home), they would think twice about silco's so-called prodigy, and maybe execute her as a sign of mercy. jinx pulls away slightly, sniffing and rubbing off any excessive tears and snot with the back of her hand before blinking up to the boy before her.
she's still so unsure about all of this, and knows damn well that being with him will cause a lot of strife. she knows her heart is beating for him, but there's hurt swirling all around it too, if not slightly skipping a beat for quentin every so often too. all of this is confusing, and happening so unexpectedly, but there's one thing she knows for sure... — and that something is that he is real. ekko is in front of her, just like he said, and their kiss felt real too. so if her world crumbles into itty bitty pieces, and she can no longer tell what reality is what, at least... she can make their kiss her starting point.
so with that, jinx stands on her toes again — her hand carefully stirs to cup gingerly at the back of his head as she tilts her own. closer and closer her lips reaches his, until they meet one more time. this kiss she plants on him is different, not as feverish, but there's fondness flowing through it. maybe aldrip finally broke her and made her go completely bonkers. but so what if she is bonkers? all the best people are, they say. ]
